Malandela ground, in Tsakane, played host to the final game between Elco Santos and Black Stars.
Both teams were part of the three-day Easter tournament which ended on Monday.
The Easter games were a collaboration between the Brakpan Local Football Association, and Women of the Word.
The tournament was divided into junior and super leagues, with the junior category final games scheduled for May 1.
Elco Santos, which plays in the SAB Castle League, went into the game with the advantage of having more experienced players.
While Black Stars tried to find their feet, Santos wasted no time, and scored a goal in the opening minutes of the game (by Sibusiso Nkosi wearing number 11).
Sibusiso came shortly after, and the referee’s signalling an offside position stopped him from taking a shot at goal from the one on one position he had with the Stars’ keeper.
This seemed to shake Stars’ players, who showed resilience and a refusal to be bullied on their home ground.
Siphiwe Nkosi, wearing Stars’ number 15 jersey, was quick with the ball and hard to keep up with, however, no goals came from his good skills.
A collaboration between Njabulo Sedibe and Sibusiso of Santos saw their wonderful opportunity stopped by the crossbars.
Stars were also relentless and kept searching for a goal, and Zakhe Marobane sent a powerful shot towards the goalposts, which landed in the keeper’s hands.
After many sloppy passes in the Black Stars’ box, a touch from Sibusiso and a deflection landed the ball behind the net.
Just as it looked liked all hope was lost, Stars sneaked one in, and gave the side a hope of equalising.
After half time, Stars showed determination and good form.
Wanda Makuwa (Stars) endured many close scoring opportunities which he created throughout the game, frustrating Sizwe Dlamini who was tasked with preventing him from scoring.
It was in the final minutes of the game that Elcon Santos looked alive again.
The game ended with a final score of 2-1 in favour of Elco Santos.
