Junior vs Junior

Playing in the dust

Junior Sky Bird and Junior Aces faced off during their last, first round game, in the Brakpan Local Football Association League.

The super league game was played at Malandela Ground on Sunday, and both Bird and Aces were looking for a win to advance from their current 10 and 11 positions.

While Aces keeper tried to deal with the dust in his eyes, caused by the strong wind, Bird wasted no time and scored their first goal in the first five minutes.

Lehlohonolo Ngcephe was good at maintaining ball possession for Aces, and his well taken free kick was cleared by Bird keeper preventing him from equalising.

Aces were again presented with an opportunity to level the score through efforts made by Seun Dlamini, but was wasted when his team mate failed to finish.

The game went into half time with Bird leading with one goal, and the second half meant it was their turn to face the dust.

Jabulani Masma, Phumlani Nondyola, Themba Ndaba and Lebo Ndala of Bird formed a four man defense wall, which to countered the wind advantage that Aces had.

This did not discourage Seun, who continued to search for a goal.

His efforts were eventually rewarded, and he scored a goal from a pass sent from a corner kick.

However their celebrations were short lived, when Bird’s Themba Ndaba scored the last goal before the match ended 2-1, with Bird taking home the points.
