Mayweather to fight in East London
Mxolisi ‘Mayweather’ Nombewu from Geo Maroon Boxing Club, will be fighting to be crowned the new International bantam-weight champion.
He will be fighting tomorrow night at East London’s Orient Theatre.
Mayweather, who is ranked fifth in SA in the bantam-weight division, will be squaring up against Siphosethu Mvula. He was crowned the champion after he won a fight by a knock-out during the second round against Nasipho Mdlalose at the Orient Theatre in East London on June 16 last year.
Going back to East London to fight in the international bantam-weight division is what Mayweather has put his focus on for a few months.
“Even before I was crowned the SA bantam-weight champion I knew that I was born to be a boxing champion,” he said.
“Boxing keeps me healthy and mentally fit at all times,” says Mayweather, adding that he has been training hard to ensure that he is ready for the big day.
“I know that residents of Kwatsaduza believe in me following the support that they have already showed me during my previous fights,” said Mayweather.
He promised to come back with victory and a new title of being not just the SA champion but the International Champion.
Coach Themba Zulu is also confident that his boy will win the fight.
“Others might say East London is the home of boxing, but that does not threaten me as I am confident that with the experience that my boy has, he is not easily defeated,” says Zulu.
He thanked Daneo Holdings for sponsoring Mayweather with his mini boxing equipment.
