KwaThema Cricket Club hosts cricket festival

The Kwathema Cricket Club hosted a cricket festival at the KwaThema Prince Thethe Cricket Oval.

Eight junior teams from Ekurhuleni played two matches each on Saturday.

KwaThema Cricket Club, chairman Peter Vonya said the festival was aimed at encouraging the young cricket players to follow their dreams and play hard until they reach a professional level.

He adds that the aim of the event was also to promote cricket.

“We pride ourselves as a determined club and understanding our vision,” said Vonya.

On the day, the club also hosted a fundraising event to ensure that the club does not die, but has enough funds for its continued existence.

“We hope that the funds raised on the day will assist in getting new equipment for the club,” said Vonya.

The season still continues over the weekend as the senior league matches for the Premier league will be played in Actonville.

KwaThema Premier team will play against Actonville, Premier reserve to play against Duduza at Willomore, Chairman and Bakerton will play at Olympia while the junior U/8 and United will play at Prince Thethe Oval, U/10 to play against Duduza in Duduza, U/12 KwaThema Cricket Club and Duduza will play at Willomore and U/14 KwaThema Cricket Club to play against Duduza at Olympia A.
