Mayweather’s fight to defend his title
Mayweather is expected to defend his championship title on December 13 in Bloemfontein.
Mxolisi ‘Mayweather’ Nombewu from Geo Maroon Boxing Club, was crowned the new International bantam-weight champion on August 30.
Mayweather, the champion, won the fight against Siphosethu Mvula at East London’s Orient Theatre.
He was announced as the new world bantam-weight champion after he knocked out his opponent during the third round.
The fight that was supposed to have 12 rounds was called off after Mayweather defeated his opponent by giving him a powerful punch on the cheek that was followed by a strong punch in the ribs that put Mvula down.
To ensure that he keeps his championship gold belt, he has started to train hard for his next fight.
Mayweather’s coach, Themba Zulu, said he is confident that Mayweather will protect his title.
“I have no doubt that he will win the fight and remain the International bantam-weight champion,” said Zulu.
David Mngcombolo and Roni Shiloane also from the Geo Maroon Boxing Club are preparing for their fights as well.
David will be fighting for the junior middle-weight fight title tomorrow (Saturday) in Nongoma KZN while Roni will be fighting to be crowned the bantam-weight champion.
On December 6, Clever Mdingi will be fighting for the fly-weight title and Charles Matabula will be fighting to win the bantam-weight fight.
