Local karatekas to compete in provincial trials

KwaThema - Seven karatekas from the KwaThema Dojo will be taking part in the karate trials to be held at Kibler Park Recreation Sports Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Speaking on behalf of the club, sensei Michael Cindi says the students attending the trials are between the ages of 6 and 17 years old.

He explains the trials are in preparation for the National Karate Tournament which is expected to take place in Cape Town before the end of the year.

“If our boys get selected in the trials, they will be part of the squad which will represent Gauteng in the tournament,” he says.

Cindi appeals to the community to support the dojo’s car wash fund-raising event on Sunday.

He says the event is aimed at raising funds for the karatekas who might be selected during the trials.

The fund-raiser will be held at the park situated at Mayitane Street in KwaThema’s White City Section from 10am.
