School staff proud of athlete

KwaThema – Cross-country athlete Simphiwe Thombela from Ntokozweni Primary School has done it again, after he represented his school in the nationals.

The 13-year-old represented the province in the national athletics which were hosted at Port Elizabeth from March 11 to 12 where he made it to position three.

Simphiwe’s journey began when he started at KwaThema cluster which took place at the Tsakane Stadium.

He then proceeded to the compete at Selection Park School in the Greater Town level, competing with learners from KwaThema and Springs.

After doing well there, he was chosen to go through to the district level where they competed at the Boksburg Stadium.

Through hard work and determination, Simphiwe moved on to represent the province at the Ruimig Stadium in Roodepoort and then proceeded to nationals.

“The school prides itself on helping the learners to pursue excellence not just in academics but also in sports,” says principal Thembi Mpande.
