WATCH: Reedville sneak to second spot
KwaThema – Excitement was the order of the day on the pitch when supporters of Valencia FC and Reedville FC flooded the side benches, to show some love for their teams.
The two sides went head-to-head at the KwaThema Complex, in a nail-biting Premier League match, on Saturday afternoon.
The start of the match saw both teams fighting to grab the lead as soon as the whistle blew, but this challenging match provided no easy opportunities for goals.
Reedville, however, missed out on numerous opportunities to take the top spot before the end of the first half.
By the end of the first half, possession was at a 50-50 percentage, which left the sides at the 0-0 mark.
Coming back into the second half of this match, Valencia dominated initially, as they looked most likely to score the opening goal, but both of the sides failed to capitalise on their opportunities which could have helped them seal the deal.
Supporters could not contain their joy, flooding the field to congratulate their players after Reedville’s Kabelo Moagi managed to slip in a long awaited goal, which gave his team some relief and the needed lead.
After that Valencia beefed up in their strike department, hoping to get themselves a goal to put themselves on equal standing with the leading team, but the quality defending from the Reedville back line shattered any dreams of Valencia equalising.
Both benches were kept on their feet as the match drew close to the end, with Reedville’s back line having to work under immense pressure to keep the ball away from the 18 area.
As the whistle blew, relieved Reedville players and supporters rejoiced as the three points secured them second spot in the league while Valencia remained in first position on the log despite their loss.
