Cool new sport for locals – A must read
Tsakane – A training camp was conducted at the Tsakane Stadium recently, to introduce American football to learners and young people in the township.
This initiative was prompted by Gridiron South Africa, founded in January by Stephen Radebe who is a resident from Tsakane.
Radebe says since he works at a national governing body of the sport and is also introducing this sporting code to the country, the camp was conducted with the assistance of the US embassy, representatives and volunteers.
“We had a training camp with the assistance of the US embassy and invited some coaches and learners from Lebone, Tsakane and Buhlebemfundo secondary schools among others to join in on the training.
“This was basically done to introduce young people to a new sport, as it is something different and that can benefit a lot of our youth so that they can keep active, since this sport currently does not exist in our townships and can be big.
“We are planning on having more of these camps in various places,” says Radebe.

For high school learners who are interested in joining the American football training sessions they can attend in Tsakane at a public park near the stadium on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4pm.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10am the team does training with youth and adult players who are out of school.
