Locals show off their soccer skills
Tsakane – Spirits were high as Kwatsaduza's selected team and SAB and ABC Motsepe League's selected team took on the Nedbank Keyona team last Saturday at the Tsakane Stadium.
In the first match, the Kwatsaduza team tried their level best to outplay the Keyona team but the match ended in a 2-1 win for the Nedbank team.
Kwatsaduza team’s assistant coach Innocent Mayoyo said it was a good attempt from the boys and he was satisfied with the results as it was a very tense game.
Lady luck turned around in the second match of the day, when the SAB and ABC Motesepe team thrashed the visiting side 3-0, leaving the crowd cheering on the home side.
All three goals were scored by African All Star player, Thomas ‘Black Jesus’ Gope who was unstoppable.
Team coach Mhleli Xaba described the game as highly competitive, with players showing their technical skills and football techniques.
“It was a very entertaining match and for some of our players it was the very first time playing for live television,” he says.
The visit to Tsakane was the very first time the Keyona team played together after being selected.
Khabo Zondo, assistant coach and position selector for the Nedbank Keyona team, said the performance from the local teams was outstanding and competitive.
“Bearing in mind that this is the first time the Keyona team has played together as a unit since selections, we were able to clearly see each player’s capabilities.
“The team is still in its development stage and in boot camp, so after the two matches with the local sides we will know exactly what we need to do.
“It’s unfortunate that five from the 30 players who came through will be sent home. That doesn’t mean they’re not good players but it’s just a selection process,” said Zondo.
