Maba starts gym for community
KwaThema - Kgotso Maba(36) became a trainer after exercise changed his own life. Now he aims to help others reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
“I was really overweight and miserable, so I decided to do something about it,” he says.
Maba soon saw results that encouraged him to invite others to join him in his quest for fitness.
“I just put up a post on social media and said that anyone who wants to join me should come to a certain place. I was overwhelmed at the response,” says Maba.

He decided to establish his own club, GymTym, after people started asking for more sessions.
“I started charging a small fee because I was rendering a service,” he says.
He went on to explain that he had to rely on the help of other instructors to teach him how to conduct an aerobics class.
“I had no experience at all. So I also watched many videos to learn technique,” he says.
Maba says he enjoys aerobics more than any other exercise plan because one does not need much equipment for it.
“Aerobics is cardio, strength training and muscle building all in one. And it gives you stamina,” he says.
He has gone on to train two instructors who were students when he started the classes.
They meet every Monday to Wednesday at Lifa Ifa Secondary School at 6pm.
