Jozino won second place in the Om die Dam marathon which was held over the weekend at the Hartbeespoort Dam.
KwaThema – Jazino Khoza (50) came second in the 21km Old Mutual Om die Dam ultramarathon in the over 50 years category.
Jozino says she is happy that she represented her team well in the marathon.
“It was not as simple as I had estimated, but I was ready to fight for the first position.
“I am still happy that I made it to the second position – it is close enough,” she says.
Jozino, who has been running since primary school, says age is just a number.
“I am encouraging my peers to join us on the road and tell them they should not allow age to put them off.
“It is never too late to start because with preparation and discipline anyone can do it.
“We should all remember that keeping fit helps fight health problems which many may encounter later in their adult life,” she says.
Jozino says she is currently preparing for the upcoming ninth Comrades marathon and seventh Two Oceans marathon.
“The Comrades marathon is the most difficult race I have ever competed in and this year’s will be the most difficult as we won’t be racing for 87km but for 90 km.
Jozino says they are encouraging parents to enrol their children in their local club.
“We have a good team of coaches who are grooming the young runners to unleash their talent.
“Our young runners are doing well and are already building a name for themselves in the African races.
“We practise local races on Saturdays from 5am and on Sundays from 5am we do distance running,” she says.
