KwaThema – Four karate fighters from the Edward Mtshali Karate Centre will be participating in the upcoming Japan Karate Africa (JKA) Cup.
The international event, which will include fighters from 25 countries, will commence on August 31 at the Standard Bank Arena.
Karate coach Edward Mtshali say he is happy four of his fighters made it this far in the competition.
“David More, who will be competing in the veterans division, will be fighting in the kumite division, while Sello Malatsi will be demonstrating in the kata division.
“Kamogelo Nkunwane will be demonstrating in kata and kumite division, while Jonas Nkosi will be fighting kumite,” he says.

Mtshali explains the JKA’s chief instructor, Shuseki Shihan Ueki, who holds ninth dan (the highest black belt degree), will be training and overseeing the workshops for the week.
“This is a good opportunity for the fighters to learn, improve and share skills with other fighters from across the world.
“They will then be expected to share the knowledge with the other fighters in the centre upon their return,” he says.
Mtshali is urging parents to support and encourage their children to participate in sports.

“We are encouraging parents to not only send their children to enrol in sports, but also to attend their games and know who their coaches are for the children’s safety,” he says.
