Boxer Fani Mguni crowned as junior featherweight champion
“Together with my coach we had planned to fight to the last round but in the third round, after weighing my opponent's strength, I could see if I didn't use the opportunity to knock him out, I would come out as a loser.”

KwaThema – Fani Mguni, a boxer from Total Success Boxing Club was crowned the junior featherweight champion during the Explosive Boxing Event that was held in Klerksdorp on Saturday.
He won with a TKO in the third round against his opponent Thabang Mofulo.
Fani says this was one of his toughest fights ever since he started fighting three years ago.

“This was my first professional fight and I had to work hard to prepare myself.
“I had to lose 8kg within a period of two weeks. With the help of my coach I worked hard and I managed to go from 63kg down to 55kg.
“I had to take leave from work to prepare and focus on the tournament,” he says.
Fani says his opponent gave him a run for his money but he had to remain grounded and fight for the number one position.

“I saw an opportunity and used it,” he says.
Manager and coach Lwazi Xundu says he is proud of Fani for being disciplined during the preparations and fight.
“He stuck to the recommended diet to help him lose the required weight.
“This is a motivation to the young and upcoming fighters who look up to him.
“This will help us encourage young people to join the team.
“We are now preparing for his upcoming fights. We hope he will do well,” he says.
