KwaThema dojos join forces to form local association

“We are calling all black belt holders to come forward to join the association because its success depends on all of us working together.”

KwaThema – Karate dojos have joined forces to form KwaThema Martial Arts Association, an umbrella body for the sport in the area.

This is to help unify the sport and have a body that oversees all the dojos in the area.

Shihan Edward Mtshali, one of the fighters who brought the sport to the area in the ’60s, says this move will ensure the sport last for decades.

“We learnt the sport from a book by master Hidetaka Nishiyama, travelled the world to master the sport and promised to share the skill with others.

“Some of the fighters went on to start their independent dojos which excelled through the years on a local and international level.

” Young people need to be encouraged to participate in sports because it teaches them discipline which many lack today.

“We hope through the association we will attract more fighters to the sport who will also make a career out of it,” he explains.

Chairperson of the association sensei Micheal Cindi says the association will be hosting their first training event at the Mtshali Dojo next week Wednesday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
