Young soccer players were honoured for their hard work at the Springs Local Football Association annual award ceremony at the KwaThema Sports Complex on Saturday.

KwaThema – Young soccer players were honoured for their hard work at the Springs Local Football Association annual award ceremony at the KwaThema Sports Complex on Saturday.

The best players from all the teams affiliated to the local Football Associated (LFA) walked away with certificates, medals and other prizes.

The chairperson of KwaThema Sports Confederation, Innocent Mayoyo, says the ceremony serves to motivate and encourage young players to work hard throughout the season.

“They must compete knowing the other teams are also hungry for the number one spot in the league and so they must be prepared to be competitive on the pitch.

“We have dedicated coaches who work hard to ensure the players perform at the best of the abilities, enabling them to move into regional leagues.

“Through the years we have seen an improvement in the teams’ performances.

“We are proud that Ace Auto Ayoba won the u-17 Ekurhuleni Regional League this season,” he says.

Ace Auto Ayoba was voted the best team of the season and walked away with a trophy, a certificate and prize money voucher, while Valencia u-17 and Valencia u-15 emerged as LFA winners of the season.

Proud parent, Nhlanhla Malaza, says she is proud of the LFA for keeping the young boys off the streets.

“This is to ensure that they spend their free time playing soccer, and not lured into committing a crime or taking drugs.

“My son has been playing soccer since he was eight year, and I know where to look for him when he is not home.

“I know he is not getting up to no good. He is now 17, and I am happy with his school work and behavior,” she says.
