Police encourage residents to report abuse
“We are saying the time to break the silence is now.”
Tsakane – Members of the police are calling on residents to break the silence and speak out against abuse.
The community meeting was one of the events the police are hosting during the 16 days of activism against the abuse of women and children.
The meeting took place in Langaville Extension One, Tsakane, on Monday.
They joined forces with other stakeholders, including Social Crime Prevention, the communications department, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk and members of the Victim Empowerment Centre.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu says the community was encouraged to speak out whenever they experience abuse.
“Residents are assured that Tsakane SAPS members are working around the clock to fight the violence against women and children.
“We are also striving to handle all the cases with integrity, in a professional way.
“All cases reported, whether by men or women, will be given the same attention by police.

“The community was also informed about the increasing rape cases in Tsakane and we pleaded with the community to be alert at all times and take care of themselves and people around them, especially children,” she explains.
Mngomezulu says they are happy the majority of those in attendance were young people.
“This group is the most vulnerable to abuse and needs to understand that there is nothing wrong with speaking out against abuse.
“We are saying the time to break the silence is now,” she says.
