VUKA Rugby partners with locals for rugby tournament
This tournament is aimed at empowering and supporting local players who have shown major interest in the sport.
KwaThema – A rugby friendly, which took place at the Sport Complex in KwaThema in preparation for the upcoming school league rugby tournament, which is set to start in May, saw Phulong Secondary School take on Tlakula Secondary School.

“The upcoming league is supported by Vuka Rugby. We went to schools to invite them to come play rugby with us,” says the KwaThema rugby club coach, Dailuxolo Somyo.
This tournament is aimed at empowering and supporting local players who have shown major interest in the sport.
VUKA Rugby is a partnership between the South African Rugby Legends (SARLA) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU).
The VUKA Rugby coordinator for the KwaThema and Tsakane branch, Tebogo Mochabo, says: “The aim is to introduce rugby to schools in the townships as you find black players playing in white schools due to the lack of structures in our townships.”
