Calling on teams to register for the annual Ekurhuleni Goodwill Games

KwaThema – Teams are encouraged to start registering for the upcoming annual Ekurhuleni Goodwill Games tournament.

The theme for this year’s tournament is building social cohesion through sports.

Organiser Skeshe Mkhonza says they are open to anyone who wants to participate.

“As the Ekurhuleni goodwill committee, our approach is to invite all teams, locally and beyond, to be part of the event and partner with us in uniting and providing a platform that promotes social cohesion in line with our country’s commitment of building a prosperous South Africa and a better world,” says Mkhonza.

Registration is R1 500 and the closing date is December 8.

The tournament will start from December 16 to 24 at the KwaThema Sports Complex.

The finals will take place at the KwaThema Stadium on December 27 to 30.

The sporting codes are soccer for boys u-13 and u-15 and seniors.

The official launch will be on December 14 at Carnival Mall.

First prize will be R70 000, second prize R20 000, third and fourth prize winners will walk away with R5 000 each.

The community is asked to support the initiative and assist where possible.

Media liaison officer Seth Phumlile Twala says, “We are open to sponsorships and donations. This is a community programme that seeks to contribute to the development of young people through sports and also contribute to eradicating crime during the festive season, and promote responsible citizenship.”
