Springs Home Sweepers’ Masilela makes it into women’s national team

Portia Masilela to represent Kwatsaduza at national cup qualifiers.

Kwa-Thema – Springs Home Sweepers Portia Masilela (16) has been selected to join the South African u-17 Women’s National Team (Bantwana) for the Fifa u-17 World Cup qualifier matches.
The defender represented the club last Friday when the squad played against Ethiopia in Johannesburg.

Local player Portia Masilela (16) will play for the national team.

Sweepers technical director Mkhonza Mkhonzana said the history of the club prides itself on being able to develop and nurture local talent to become young professionals.
He said they are the institution for development as the club is playing in the Sasol Women’s League.

“We are very proud. She is the first of her generation within the club to be called to the national team.
“We hope her journey inspires others to show dedication and commitment to their craft,” added Mkhonzana.
He also emphasised the importance of education.
“Football has plenty of opportunities, such as scholarships and bursaries, for players.
“We already have about five players who are in tertiary institutions because of football.
“It only requires passion and discipline to see results,” said Mkhonzana.
