Local netball player wins another player of the match award in the Telkom Netball League
Palesa Mbukwana won another player of the match title during the Telkom Netball league games.
Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema’s Palesa Mbukwana was crowned player of the match in the Telkom Netball League semi-finals between Mpumalanga Sun Birds and Boababs Netball Club recently.
This was her 14th player of the match award in the national league games. She walked away with R3 500 as part of her award.
Palesa explained it was a tough game but they managed to win 48-43.
“If it was more money I would have donated the funds towards a local netball team kit,” she explained.
The netball veteran started playing in 2003, while in Grade Nine, and hasn’t looked back.
“Netball is a team sport that requires all team members to pull in the same direction for its success.
“During the week, I practice with Spartans Netball Club and share some of the knowledge and skills with the young players,” she said.
She added that one of the challenges faced by the local team’s development is commitment.
“Sports requires one to work hard, especially in training to make it to the national leagues.
“Another challenge is the poor facilities and support which also contribute to the team making it far in the sport,” she added.
