Athletes invited to join the Duduza Athletics Club

The club is looking to develop young talent.

Duduza – Recently certified athletic coach Thabo Tsotetsi (46) is inviting athletes, especially the youth, to join the Duduza Athletics Club.
He has completed his level one coaching certificate for middle and long-distance running with Athletics South Africa (ASA).
The athlete-turned-coach joined the club in 2004. His passion for the sport started while he was at Witkoppen Primary School.
“The course has opened my eyes to lots of things which at times we were not doing right.
“I learned how to properly curate a dietary and training plan for athletes.
“It teaches you different training methods and the importance of knowing your athletes to avoid comparison,” explained Tsotetsi.
He started coaching in 2016.

Tsotetsi has participated in various running tournaments and has won several medals.
He does 5km to 32km races and has done cross country and track and field.
“I ventured into coaching because I want to develop the youth.
“Many are interested but do not have the knowledge nor have a strategic plan.
“A lot of young people start at schools but post-school they struggle to continue with training,” he stated.
He said joining the club will enable runners to have a yearly training programme and a support structure.
The club’s intake starts from the age of seven to seniors.
They train every Tuesday and Thursday at the Duduza Multipurpose Centre from 16:30 to 17:30.
On Saturdays, they attend park runs if there are no races.
He also encouraged other coaches to do the course to avoid injuries in their camps.
