Sports confederation’s work mapped out
The essence of the meeting was to go through the Ekurhuleni Sports Confederation's Constitution, which was used as a model, so as to give members an idea of what theirs should include.
Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Sports Confederation held its pre-elective congress workshop at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex on Saturday, where it was briefed on the work it still has to do before it can elect its leadership for the next four-year cycle.
The Ekurhuleni Sports Confederation secretary-general Benny Mphahlele conducted the workshop at the cricket clubhouse, where nine members of the Kwa-Thema sports body were in attendance, representing various sports.
Mphahlele spent the morning sharing his expertise in the running of such bodies and advised the confederation’s interim executive committee on a wide range of constitutional statutes, such as the ones concerning the composition of the body’s executive, the eligibility of members, and rules for convening meetings.

The interim committee agreed with Mphahlele that certain legal documents are outstanding, and also agreed on its official adoption with the members before it can go to congress.
The committee’s chairperson, Edward Mtshali, was satisfied with how the workshop went. “This has opened our eyes to what needs to be done.”
Some of the key points that Mphahlele discussed was that all member sports of the confederation must provide proof that they are members in good standing with their respective mother bodies, such as SAFA Ekurhuleni for football and Easterns Cricket for the Kwa-Thema Cricket Club.
Mphahlele also welcomed the idea of having the workshop at the sports complex, suggesting that such meetings should always be held at venues where the sport takes place.
