Bittersweet moment for Eyethu at championships
The club is impressed with its performance at the championships despite the defeat.
Duduza – Eyethu Badminton Development Club missed out on clinching the title at the South African High School Championships, which took place in Durban.
The squad made up of learners from Thandi Sibeko Secondary School lost 3-2 in the finals against Durban Girls High.
Representing the school were Mbulelwa Kubheka (19), Lindokuhle Twala (16), Mbali le Roux (17) and Lerato Nkutha (17).
Club director Samuel Mongala said though they lost, reaching the final is historic for Duduza.

“As Eyethu Badminton and parents of the learners, we extend our warmest gratitude to Badminton South Africa and Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association for the assistance towards making this historic moment in Duduza and Ekurhuleni.
“The Thandi Sibeko Secondary School is the first township school from Duduza, to campaign at this level,” he said.
They also hosted a Women’s Day AirBadminton Shuttle Time on August 9 in South Beach, Durban.
The club trains Monday to Friday from 15:30 to 18:30 at the Duduza Multipurpose Centre.
