Local player joins the national team for COSAFA Women’s Championships

Portia Masilela (16) from the Springs Home Sweepers is part of the 23 players selected for Banyana Banyana.

Kwa-Thema – Springs Home Sweepers defender Portia Masilela (16) has made it to the Banyana Banyana squad for the COSAFA Women’s championships.
Masilela joined the women’s national team for the tournament to be played in Port Elizabeth from August 31 to September 11.
Early this year she was called in for the U17 women’s national team (Bantwana) for the world cup qualifier tournament, where she made two appearances.

Speaking on behalf of the club, technical director, Mkhonza Mkhonzana said, “It is rare to find a player that’s playing in two divisions for the national team.
“This serves as an encouragement and motivation for the club and our players that hard work does pay off.
“This is the legacy we are pushing so hard for.”
The club has invites potential U11 and U13 female soccer players to join the team.
They are training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Phulong Secondary School from 16:00.
