Runners celebrate completing the Comrades
Following the recent comrades' marathon, local runners are gearing up for the 2023 race.
Duduza – The Mamepe Striders from Duduza held a cocktail dinner party in celebration of the Kwatsaduza runners who participated in the recent Comrades Marathon.
Sponsored by the Jobe Foundation, the event took place at the Vida Lounge on Friday.
Mamepe chairperson Thabo Moorosi said events of this nature are important before and after the Comrades.
“It’s an important platform for experienced runners and novice runners to exchange information and lessons in their quest to tackle this annual 90km race.
“It also helps to understand the challenges they go through in their preparations.
“But most importantly understanding why these runners put themselves in such an amount of pain in their endeavour to participate and finish the Comrades Marathon,” said Moorosi.

Twenty-four Comrades medallist Vusi Nhlapo (67), aka Top Runner, in his congratulatory message, encouraged the runners to work harder so that one day an athlete from Kwatsaduza can be in the top 10 or maybe even win the title.
The club said the event was a success and they hope to have more women participate next year.
“The best time to prepare is now since 2023 is just around the corner. Those who would like to join us are more than welcome,” said Moorosi.
