Kwa-Thema Cricket Club earns ‘blue flag’ status
The club was announced as one of the 14 clubs nationally to earn the blue flag status on Monday.
Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema Cricket Club is among the 14 clubs across the country to receive a ‘blue flag’ status from Cricket South Africa (CSA).
The announcement was made on September 26 by CSA.
A blue flag status is a CSA recognition given to clubs for running an effective cricket pipeline structure.
The criterion used to reach this status is based on administration capabilities, adequate facilities, the minimum number of teams and suitably qualified coaches.
The club’s head coach, Tebogo Gaduka said this new status will open new opportunities for them.

“Everyone at the club is thrilled about this new move and remain committed to working hard. This will contribute to the growth and expansion of the club. As we hope to attract more sponsors to come on board,” said Gaduka.
Affiliate registered clubs need to complete a Club Quality Index (CQI) to reach their status.
The CQI is an administrative self-evaluation instrument that serves to guide in finding the status of a registered club in driving the CSA presidential plan club-cricket aims.
A club wishing to find blue flag status must score 90% on the CQI.
Gaduka added that having a functional and committed committee is a big help.
He said this is an encouragement to keep going the extra mile.

They presently have five junior teams and five seniors.
The status will enable the club to wear the CSA blue flag logo on all cricket playing apparel and will be awarded a CSA plaque of recognition.
CSA Senior Cricket Manager Johan Weyers said the accomplishment is one step on their journey to make cricket accessible to all.
“We recognise the commitment of our clubs towards CSA’s strategic objectives to provide our cricketers with a wide variety of opportunities that offer exposure to showcase their talent.
“The award stands alone proudly seeing their hard work, dedication and leadership as blue flag clubs within our members.
“The ability to search for solutions to challenges and find innovative ways to improve our club cricket system is the key to this success,” concluded Weyers.
