Honouring legends with a braai

KTCC celebrated legends

Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Cricket Club (KTCC) hosted its first KTCC braai and social gathering last Saturday at the Prince Thethe Oval.

The club committee who organised the braai invited the KTCC legends and senior players to attend with the prestigious guests Prince Thethe, the founder of the KTCC, and Sandile Makeleni, Thoko Gumede and Elsie Marule, all instrumental in establishing cricket at Kwa-Thema Combined School, now known as Kwa-Thema Primary.

It started when Thethe was the school’s principal. The guests are all retired teachers from the school.

The club representative, Thami Mathibe said, “The aim was to bring all former cricket players back to unite them with the club while rebuilding the culture of unity so the club can grow and we play the sport again in all Kwa-Thema schools.”

The guests were honoured with an award by the club for their contribution to establishing the club and the sport in the township.

“This sport is regarded as a white man’s sport in the township. However, the club is looking to transform that mindset and get the children playing cricket and involve the parents and the community,” concluded Mathibe.
