Top spot for Nkabinde girls

Nkabinde girls to represent Gauteng in the national games.

Kwa-Thema – The Nkabinde Primary School girls’ team have come out tops. The girls were playing in the first Gauteng primary schools championships, named the Kay Motsepe School Football Championships, where they got the first position.

The girls began their journey at the cluster level where they ranked number one until reaching the provincial level.

They played on Saturday at Clapham High School, in Queenswood, Pretoria. They played against four schools, winning against three and drawing with one.

The girls’ coach, Sphelele Khumalo, said he and the whole school were proud of the girls’ performance.

“The girls’ hard work and determination paid off,” he said.

The girls will now be representing the province in the nationals from October 2 to 7 in Magaliesberg.

Their prize included a new soccer kit, medals, a trophy and a R100 000 voucher towards the improvement of the school’s sporting facilities.

Nkabinde school principal Vusi Nkabinde said he was proud of how well the girls had played.

He said not all learners excelled in academics because others excelled in sports and that, as a school, they would keep encouraging girls to play sports.
