Tsakane Community Games Winter Championships celebrate local talent with thrilling finals
Young footballers and netball players showcased their talent as the Tsakane Community Games Winter Championships wrapped up after weeks of exciting competition during the school holidays.
Tsakani – The Tsakane Community Games Winter Championships recently concluded with a bang.
The tournament started on July 4 and has been ongoing during the school holidays with games taking place at the Tsakane Stadium, Phela Ndaba Ground and Letsie Primary School sports ground.
The tournament features soccer and netball games with participants in U11, U13, U15, and U17 in soccer, and U13, U15, and seniors in netball.
Tournament organiser, Thuso Mtsweni, explained that the purpose of the tournament was to create an environment where young athletes can explore and express their raw talent in the community.
“Another aim was to also take the children off the streets during the school holidays,” he said.

The tournament partnered with Herotel as the major sponsor, Score Energy Drink, Ext 5 Plus Butchery and Standard Bank.
Mtshweni thanked all the sponsors, saying they have played a significant role in shaping local football.
“I thank all the participating teams as well. Without them, there would not have been a tournament,” he said.
The tournament also created job opportunities for vendors to sell during the tournament.
Parents came to show support during games.
Teams received medals and cups in recognition of their dedication and hard work in every game.
The following teams won the tournament in their respective divisions:
- U15: National Team
- U13: 1496 Students
- U11: Real Heroes
- U17 Abagqilazi winner
