Kwa-Thema’s Sunday Crew marks Women’s Day with fun run and fitness drive

Kwa-Thema’s Sunday Crew Health and Fitness hosted its third annual Women’s Day Fun Run and Walk, bringing the community together to promote women’s health and fitness.

Kwa-Thema – Sunday Crew Health and Fitness hosted its third annual Women’s Day Fun Run and Walk to commemorate Women’s Day and promote fitness and health on August 9.

The event featured a 5km and 10km fun walk with participants from all walks of life. At the end of the walk, there was an aerobics session.

The crew’s deputy chairperson, Jabulani Mashinini, said the main reason for organising such an initiative was to create awareness towards women’s health.

“Another reason is that we need to celebrate women.

“Women face a lot and need a safe space where they can release steam; fitness is always the best option,” he explained.

The event received support from different stakeholders, organisations and entrepreneurs.

Mashinini expressed thankfulness to coach Benzi Tenza for always supporting their initiatives and for partnering with them in everything they do.

Tenza is part of the Trust The Process (TTP) Movement, a health and fitness NPO.

TTP is a training programme that offers health-related tips and information on health and fitness, especially on running.

Their focus is on beginners. It offers free services to the community.

Mashinini cited that he was beyond pleased with the great turnout and support from the community of Kwatsaduza.

“Adults and children come to support us and for that, we are grateful,” he said.

Young adult, Kgauhelo Mpotle, finished the 10k run first. He expressed gratefulness, saying he participated in the run to show women that he acknowledges their strength and courage on Women’s Day.

“I am showing support to my mother and all the other women who are hard workers, family-oriented, and those whom we never thank for their sacrifices.

“Finishing first was such an honour too; I am beyond happy,” he added.
