Mighty Titans crowned champions at Nomndayi Women’s Day Netball Festival
Nine U15 teams battled for honours at the Nomndayi Women’s Day Netball Festival, with Mighty Titans crowned champions in Kwa-Thema.
Kwa-Thema – The Nomndayi Women’s Day Netball Festival brought the community together at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex on August 9, with young female athletes, families, friends and supporters gathering for a day of sport, celebration and development.
The festival was part of the Women’s Day celebrations and used netball as a platform to empower and celebrate young women, allowing them to showcase their talent.
The U15 category took centre stage, with nine teams competing for the championship trophy in a day filled with competitive netball and enthusiastic support from the sidelines.
“It was important for us to create such an event for netball players on Women’s Day. Many of these teams need support, encouragement and investment,” Velly Mokgako said.
The festival created a lively atmosphere as families and friends came out in numbers to cheer on the young players.

The event also received support from Citiq, which provided goodies for the participating teams. At the end of the competition, Mighty Titans emerged as the 2026 Nomndayi Women’s Day Netball Festival champions, with Ulinda team finishing as runners-up.
Saints and Reedville Angels were the two semi-finalist teams. The top two teams were each rewarded with 10 jerseys, adding to the excitement of the young athletes.
Every participant also received a goodie bag containing sanitary towels, sponsored by Nomndayi and Citiq, ensuring that the festival addressed not only the sporting development of the girls but also their well-being.
Mokgako described the festival as a successful and memorable celebration of Women’s Day, providing young girls with an opportunity to develop their sporting abilities, build confidence and connect with their community through sport.
The event further highlighted the importance of creating spaces where young women can participate, compete and be celebrated for their talents.
