Duduza church encourages healthy living through health checks and fun walk

Agape Christian Family Church hosted its first annual Moving in Grace Fun Walk in Duduza on September 19.

Duduza – Agape Christian Family Church hosted its first annual Moving in Grace Fun Walk in Duduza on September 19.

The event featured a 5km and 10km walk, and aerobics. The church organised the initiative to promote healthy living and to involve the community.

“It is to bring the two together to fellowship and promote healthy living. We have a foundation to assist with that purpose,” said initiative organiser and church member Tumi Ngingi.

The event received sponsorship from local businesses. They sponsored the event with refreshments and cleaning materials.

They also gave the church branded keyholders, cups and other items. Sechaba Foundation graced the event with their presence, offering health screening and health talks.

Ngingi said it is important for individuals to undergo health screening from time to time. The screening process included checking HIV, HGT, blood pressure, and registration for PrEP.

“If someone is HIV-negative and wants to register for PrEP, they will register them directly,” she added.

Ngingi said the biggest aim of the event is to encourage church members to live healthy and prioritise their health.

“At times, we tend to say, ‘By His stripes I am healed.’ But we want the temple of the Lord to stay healthy.

“We need to remember that our bodies are the temple of the Lord, but now we are saying we are keeping it healthy.

“According to Acts Chapter 17, verse 28, “In Him we move, in Him we live and we have our being.” So, we are moving in His grace, we are keeping our bodies healthy, and we are keeping the temple of the Lord healthy,” she explained.

The church aims to host the event yearly, to promote regular health checks. Ngingi thanked those in attendance for being part of the event.
