On the big screen: The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete

Starring: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Anthony Mackie, Ethan Dizon, Jeffrey Wright, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Skylan Brooks. Directed by: George Tillman.

In this all-star drama, two youths from one of New York’s toughest neighbourhoods are left to fend for themselves when their parents are suddenly arrested.

With his irresponsible mother unable to hold down a job, 14-year-old inner city kid Mister is used to going hungry.

However, when she is taken away by the authorities and his natural instinct is to distrust and dodge the Child Protection Services deployed to track him down, he finds himself completely alone.

Then he bumps into nine-year-old Pete who is in the same sinking boat.

Together the two of them search for sustenance while attempting to avoid the violence that plagues their neighbourhood.
