The current generation Koleos model made its way to South Africa early last year and was the last step in Renault’s styling renaissance which started with the Clio in 2012. Renault has unveiled an updated model with both styling changes and more creature comforts on the interior.

Upfront the grille sees the addition of chrome inserts as well as a new skid plate on the lower front bumper. Mirroring the more luxurious theme is chrome underlining included in the fog-lamp bezels. While retaining the original chrome trim on the front wing, Renault did add new chrome wing trims creating the impression that the front-end is longer. The LED front and rear lights still retain the signature C-shape although the Daytime Running Lights on the front now extend further than the headlight units creating a more focussed look. The Pure Vision Full LED main- and dipped- beam lights which provides for light beams 20 per cent more powerful than that of halogen headlights, is available dependant on the variant.

At the rear, permanently-lit tail lights feature and includes Edge Light technology which bolsters the 3D effect in the light cluster and accentuates the 1 840mm width of the Koleos. Drawing your attention to the lower bumper is a chrome insert which extends to the dual dual-exhaust tailpipes which flank a newly design skid plate extending higher on the bumper. Further bolstering the exterior updates are four new 18-inch alloy wheels which compliment the side protective mouldings.

Mirroring the premium chrome trim on the exterior of the Koleos is the addition of satin chrome inserts on the steering wheel, gear lever and air vents. Bolstering the more premium feel are foamed materials on the dashboard and door trims and contrast stitching on the leather upholstery and leather-trimmed armrests. The interior ambient lighting also now features customisable LED cabin lighting which allows the occupants to choose in between a variety of colours including green and blue, to yellow, red and violet.

For regular commuters and or adventurers, the front cup holder can be chilled to keep your refreshments cool or warm. The front seats deemed the largest in its segment, come with six-way power adjustment and lumbar adjustability dependant on the vehicle specification. The rear bench allows for 60:40 split configuration and will allow you to increase the 464-litre boot capacity to 1 795-litres.

Displaying the images from the 360 Park Assist is either a 7.0-inch horizontal or 8.7-inch vertical screen depending on the model variant. The R-LINK 2 Sat Nav and Multimedia system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features full-screen Apple CarPlay for ease of use and reading. Assisting in controlling the system and its sat-nav, phone calls, apps, e-mails and radio functions is a voice recognition system which can be activated from the steering wheel. Both USB ports have relocated to under the centre console, at the base of the gear lever, for greater convenience.

Under the bonnet of the French offering is a 2.5-litre petrol motor which comes mated to a CVT transmission. The vehicle can be specified with either a 4×2 or 4×4 configurations but will result in the same 126 kW power output and 233 N.m of torque.
