City Royal edge Ayeye FC in thrilling 3-2 encounter

The match saw a momentum shift as both teams battled until the final whistle.

Ayeye FC fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat against City Royal FC in a closely contested match on May 3 at Ntokozweni Stadium in the Tsamaya Social League.

In the first half, Wesley Vollmer scored the opening goal for City Royals. Thulani Zofa equalised for Ayeye. Mbulelo Lolwane put City Royals in the lead.

Ayeye was awarded a penalty in the second half, which was scored by Zofa. A penalty was awarded to City Royal following a foul by Ayeye on a City Royal player. Vollmer converted.

Ayeye’s coach, Musa Mbonani, shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and what lies ahead.

Despite the results, he thanked his players for sticking to the game plan. He said that for the next game, they will work on their defence and should be more aggressive.

City Royal’s captain, Lucky Mndawe, said that the team came prepared for the game, as Ayeye beat them twice in the last season.

Despite the win, he shared that there is room for improvement within the team.

“It’s very important because right now we’re all trying to find our feet. So if we don’t get points now, it’s going to be a difficult second round because now people are fighting for relegation, and the stakes are very high.

“So the first round is very important to get as many points as possible. There were moments in the game that it could have gone either way for the team,” said Mndawe.

Mndawe hopes that the team will be taking chances in their next game.
