PHOTOS: Alberton Dam covered in waste

A further concern was an overflowing manhole that appeared to have spilled sewage into the streams.

The RECORD joined councillor Tiaan Kotzé for an oversight visit of the Alberton Dam on October 8.

Upon inspection it was found the dam was covered in detritus coalescing in the corners of the body of water.

Following the streams leading to the dam we discovered several stormwater drains that seem to be contributing to the accumulation of the detritus.

A further concern was an overflowing manhole that appeared to have spilled sewage into the streams.
Various different species of animals call the dam home.

Kotzé, alongside the RECORD, has appealed to the Department of Agricultural and Rural Development about the issues plaguing the Alberton Dam.
