For two days straight, Meyerton residents have been clashing with police over service delivery. Traffic has been disrupted and the R59 has been closed off until further notice.

The protesting crowd from Sicelo informal settlement took to the R59 to voice their grievances. There was a violent exchange between the police and crowd. Rubber bullets and tear gas were fired by the police to disperse the crowd.

People cannot access Meyerton through Johan le Roux Drive and they will not be able to get to De Deur. Johan le Roux is completely closed for traffic.
Residents are also reminded that the people dressed in red overalls at the municipal buildings are Red Ant members, deployed to safeguard the buildings. They will also be seen in town from time to time while patrolling.

There is no clear indication when the protest will come to end, shops in the area have been closed following the protest.
