TWO escapees from Johannesburg Correctional Services were shot dead last night (April 10) in Greytown, KZN during a shootout with the police.
A total of 16 remand detainees escaped from Johannesburg Correctional Centre on April 9.
The COURIER contacted Mocheta Monama, correctional services spokesperson to confirm the incident. He said yes it is true, however, he does not have a formal statement because the matter is handled by the Hawks.
A media enquiry was sent to the spokesperson for the Hawks in KZN, Simphiwe Mhlongo.
