UPDATE: Suspect dies in shooting near Mall at Newmarket

SAPS is busy with the investigation.

THE man who was wounded in his head on February 16 after a shooting occurred at the intersection of Ring Road East and Voortrekker Road near Mall at Newmarket, has died.

According to sources, officers from the Special Operations Group (SOG) chased the suspect driving a white Toyota Corolla with false number plates after an incident at a petrol station.

Shots were fired and the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

National Paramedical Services transported the patient (suspect) to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries during the week.

The security guard was arrested and a case of attempted murder was opened.

Capt Manare Ramotshela from Alberton SAPS said the security officer appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on February 19 and received bail.

SAPS is busy with the investigation.
