Ward 38 councillor conducts oversight visits at council facilities
Ward 38 councillor Malcolm Maifala-Masebe conducted a number of oversight visits at various Council facilities on September 3.
He visited the Brackenhurst Clinic, Customer Care Area offices and the Alberton Library. These visits were prompted by a need to promote good service delivery.
“With the Brackenhurst Clinic, an issue of cleanliness was raised by a local resident. I then committed to address issues that cause a delay in making sure cleaning material is supplied in time to ensure the clinic is always kept clean,” he said.
He again visited the Customer Care Area offices to follow up on a number of service delivery matters which remain outstanding.
“Over the next week I will be following up on the continuous issue with streetlights which are not working. This is something I believe the council has to sort out and prioritise going forward. My main concern continues to be that of slow service delivery as a result of Covid-19,” he said.
He stated this was something he believed cannot be used as an excuse for not addressing service delivery issues. He ended his visit at the Alberton Library, where he made his observation.
He said: “It was disappointing to learn that since the minister of sport, arts and culture announced libraries could open, the municipality has not put in place safety measures to allow the community to make use of the libraries.”
The RECORD approached EMM for comment about the safety measures at the library. At the time of going to print no comment had been received.
