Residents clean up park in Vlei Street

The group, consisting of young and old, managed to clean the whole park.

Residents of South Crest and alderman Bruna Haipel, Ward 106 councillor, came together on September 12 to clean the park in Vlei Street.

Young and old pitched up with cleaning tools. The group cleaned the whole park and left it spotless.

“We can no longer rely on council to do the right thing. We either live in filth or we do it ourselves,” said the residents.

“I thank everyone who helped. This is what true community members do. They take action. I think we made a huge difference. It was a great effort and did not take that long.” said Haipel.

“Thank you to uncle Jan and aunty Val. Also Pearl, another senior for removing boards all over. Michella for donating bags. Philip for removing all the rubbish we collected. And everyone who brought their children along.

“I think they had great fun while watching the adults and learning what it means to care for one another.”
