Junior youth pastor’s lifelong dream becomes a reality

Youth pastor shares his story of rising from the ashes and a life of addiction to releasing his debut album.

Just three years ago Randhart artist Anthony Hattingh (32) was far from being where he is today.

The artist found inspiration from his life’s testimony to release a debut album with the intent to tell his inspirational story. The newly appointed junior youth pastor at Alberton Methodist Church recently launched his gospel music album titled Promised Land.

The album is a combination of original and cover songs which were produced by Blank Media at Studio Thursday.
According to Hattingh, who has 12 years’ experience as a singer, the album will reach out and bring hope to the hopeless.

He told the RECORD releasing his album was his greatest achievement as he had spent years fighting an endless battle with addiction.

“I want people to know there is hope, hope in a better future for a better life after addiction. It starts with making the right choices, you are never too far gone or too old to start over and build a future for yourself. It’s about how bad do you want it, and surrounding yourself with the right people,” he said.

The album consists of 11 songs which include The Blessing, Promised Land, Fine Right Here, God of all My Days and a few others. In two of his hit songs, Hattingh also collaborated with guitarist Vivien Redelinghuys.

Testimony

He said: “Three years ago just after Christmas I ended up on the streets here in Alberton because of my addiction. I suffered from addiction for 14 years and was in prison on drug-related charges and had no future but the thought of my next fix. I could see the sunshine and I could see the wind blow but I could not feel it.”

He reiterated that during that time, before his breakthrough, he felt lost in a vicious cycle of addiction with no hope.

“It was till I decided that I needed help. I was not born to sit on the streets high and drunk with no hope for a better future. I then went to rehab and with the strength of the Lord I am clean for almost three years now,” said Hattingh.

His recently launched debut album costs R100.
