Verwoerdpark Post Office poses a danger
The Verwoerdpark Post Office is being used as a place to sleep by homeless people.
The RECORD has received several complaints regarding the Verwoerdpark Post Office boxes’ state of disrepair and the danger posed by homeless people using the building as a place to sleep.
Ward councillor Tiaan Kotze and the RECORD visited the location to investigate.
The building’s roof is weathered and has missing panels that have been removed and placed on the ground and grass is severely overgrown.
Several of the walls have been vandalised and tagged with graffiti. During our visit to the location, there were clear indications that the location was being used by people to sleep, as belongings were scattered about the place.
Kotze echoed the complaints the RECORD received, that people feel unsafe wen visiting the location to receive their post.
This sentiment is especially carried by women who feel harassed by the people living there when they would not give them money.
Post is still being delivered to the location.
The RECORD has contacted the national post service for comment but at the time of publishing no comment had been received.
