Hijacked vehicle recovered in Alberton

A 26-year-old man was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle.

Police officers were patrolling in Alberton around 2.30pm on January 25 when they received a message from Midrand radio control that a car had been hijacked and was being driven in Alberton.

The officers spotted the vehicle and gave the driver instructions to stop, “The suspect did not have any positive explanation of how he managed to have the vehicle in his possession,” said Capt Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson for Alberton SAPS.

“The members gave him his constitutional rights and informed him of his arrest.”

The 26-year-old suspect was detained at Alberton SAPS and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle is being kept in police storage as an exhibit and will be returned to its rightful owner.

“The management of Alberton SAPS gave a round of applause for the good job performed by the arresting officers,” said Ramotshela.
