Emperor’s Palace honours GBV victims with memorial ceremony

The Palace of Dreams donated R100 000 to a Kempton Park shelter and pledged further action to protect staff and guests.

Emperor’s Palace management, staff and Peermont Executives gathered for a memorial and remembrance ceremony to honour the women who have lost their lives to gender-based violence (GBV) in the Ekurhuleni community and beyond recently.

Apart from listening to addresses by advocate Brenda Madumise-Pajibo of Wise4Afrika, members of the SAPS and EMPD and a scripture reading and prayer by chaplain Godfrey Booysen, those in attendance lit candles and observed a minute of silence for those who have lost their lives because of GBV.

During the ceremony, the Palace of Dreams also donated R100 000 to Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare & Community Organisation, a shelter based in Kempton Park. It also announced a four-point plan to safeguard its staff and guests further.

In addition, the employees pledged their commitment to ‘Remember those who have lost their lives’, ‘Stand together with those affected’ and ‘Say NO to Gender-Based Violence’.
