On January 24, the residents of Mayberry Extension 21, colloquially called the Gemstones, which consists of Ruby, Smarag, Ametis, Topaz and Saffier streets, held a meeting, in which they resolved that the area security steering committee will look for a viable and feasible solution in combating crime in the area.
From the analysis of the area layout and with the community input, it was agreed that a municipal-approved egress and access control system will be the best option.
This system will have two control points, with the main entrance located at the corner of Ruby and Topaz streets and the secondary entrance to be located at the corner of Ruby and Saffier streets.
It was proposed that the open areas will be closed off with a physical barrier, such as a ClearVu fence, palisade fence, precast wall, which will be monitored by cameras and guards.
The main entrance shall have a boom gate, a motion sensor for the driver to open the boom gate, a registration plate reader and a camera for monitoring with all the necessary signage.
It was also proposed that a secondary entrance must be closed and locked between 6pm and 6am midweek and 4pm to 9am on weekends. The gate will be electronically monitored with cameras and the gates fitted with maglocks and have a breach trigger alarm.
With the community input and support, the security steering committee is collating signatures on the petition to obtain the municipal’s approval.
