Authorities respond to body of fetus found in the Natalspruit River

Authorities responded to the body of a fetus found in the Natalspruit River just off Du Plessis road at around 10:30 on July 7.

The body was reportedly seen by passersby who alerted the authorities.

Officers from Alberton SAPS and SAPS search and rescue as well as CPS Security officers and a Netcare 911 paramedic responded to the scene.

According to Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer for Netcare 911, a fully developed fetus of a boy including the placenta was found by members of the public and the fetus was pronounced dead by a Netcare 911 paramedic on the scene.

According to him, it is unknown how long the body had been there.

A case will be opened to investigate what happened said Captain Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson for Alberton SAPS.
