Shame on Alberton residents and municipal employees
This letter goes out to the Residents of Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, Mayberry Park, Albertsdal and also to Meyersdal.

It also goes out to every Alberton municipal employee who stays in either of these areas.
It is a disgrace how we as residents can let our city fall into disrepair and do nothing to take responsibility for our residential areas. We live our lives as if there is no tomorrow.
Let me explain. I have been driving in the areas of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns and found three burst waterpipes that have not been repaired to date for weeks. Yes, not days but weeks.
The worst is the leaking waterpipe on the corner of Hennie Alberts and Delphinium streets. What a disgrace that no one using those roads did anything to report the leak.
There will be municipal employees that use the same road as they also reside in the area but you never report the problem. Thousands of vehicles just drive through the ‘river’ and don’t care one bit.
Shame on us. Shame on the business owners in the area and at centres.
Then there are the two leaks in Hennops and Limpopo streets. How could we drive out of our residences into the street and not feel guilty for not reporting the incident?
Every home down the street in Hennops and Limpopo streets is aware of the leak but did nothing about it.
Here I include the residents down Nahoon Street as well because we see the river of water running down all the way to Kamferbos and Bracken High School but no one does anything.
Even if you did report and have not followed through with the municipality, it is not good enough.
If that is not enough, residents of Camelia, Molopo, Hennops, Sue, Limpopo and other streets in the area will not be able to direct a stranger in the area to their homes because we have not reported the poor state of our street name boards. For years, as the boards are rusted right through. Shame on us.
Let’s make the effort to get our areas into shape and pass one another in the streets without hanging our heads in shame.
Johan
