The Alberton Male Choir is an example of the music culture of the South of Johannesburg.
The choir is a group of men from the south of Johannesburg and Alberton with a passion for music and likes to share the passion with others.
In addition to an overseas tour, the choir has performed on various occasions across the country.
The choir was originally started by the head of the SABC music department, Bennie Bierman in 1994.
Under Bierman, the choir reached various heights, including recording two CDs and undertaking an overseas tour.
Unfortunately, Bierman lost his battle to cancer in 2018.
After the death of Bierman, Dr Paul Potgieter took over the choir.
Under Potgieter’s guidance, the choir assisted various charities with fund-raising through their soirees.
The choir also boasts its own band that also performs at the soirees.
If you are interested in joining the choir, feel free to call Potgieter on 079 694 8421 or the choir’s chairperson Dr Danie Viljoen on 082 779 2377.
